BARRINGTON ARTZ CENTER ADDS TUESDAY EVENING OPERA SERIES:
“Opera through the Centuries”
The newly- formed Barrington Artz Center, located at 117 E. Northwest Highway (in the former Kurt Saphir Piano building, just east of the intersection at Barrington Road and Northwest Highway), has added a special Opera/ Humanities Series to it’s list of offerings. This series, led by WILLIAM POWERS – renowned Bass-Baritone of the Metropolitan Opera – will cover in a ten-week period a comprehensive thumb-nail ride through the history of opera, beginning with it’s inception in the Renaissance to the present day … from Monteverdi to Floyd. The lectures will be coupled with
musical examples – many by Mr. Powers himself, and each week will highlight a specific representative opera from a specific period. While intended to be an easy to grasp, “user friendly” instruction, the lectures will nonetheless meet and exceed home-school standards. All ages are encouraged to attend “Opera through the Centuries”.
These one-hour musical lectures will be offered every Tuesday evening, beginning promptly at 7:00 pm at the Barrington Artz Center. Cost for the entire 10 week series is $99.00 for adults and seniors, with single evening admission $12.00 at the door. Students are admitted without cost.
Mr. Powers is also known in the area for offering private vocal instruction and advanced coaching in his Barrington studio. For further information, call (847) 526-0528.
